Aslina Wines 2017 Umsasane Western Cape 14% $30
Sappy and welcoming on the palate, this generously fruit-driven, micro-cuvée has an enticingly savory and earthy undertone. Its tannins are velvety, its acidity offers spunky refreshment and its mouthcoating flavor diffuses through a pleasantly lingering finish. Aromas of blackcurrant and evergreen mesh with briar patch and damp bark. It's an intriguing bouquet that opens nicely as the wine stretches out in the glass. The concentrated flavors will benefit from decanting or aeration. This is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot.

Aslina Wines 2019 Chardonnay Western Cape 13.5% $19
Bright and energetic, this sleek, youthful Chardonnay tastes of hazelnuts and sweet apple flesh. It's a bit mealy in the mid-palate, which offers a pleasant texture. The acidity is slightly lax and the finish falls short, but this is nonetheless a pleasant and enjoyable mouthful of wine, especially for just under $20.
