"Chillable" Argentinian Reds
I often say that the trend of "chillable reds" is the effect of long-offered, bad advice. The old days of "room temperature" are now equivalent to "cellar temperature". To achieve cellar temperature in our modern homes, we need to chill the wines if we don't have wine fridges.
These three Argentinian reds from Mendoza certainly benefited from cooler temperatures. All were at about 60° F when I tasted them.

Mascota 2017 Malbec Unánime 14% $25
Lush with vibrant black fruit flavors, this is impressively accessible despite its rich fruit concentration, thanks in large part to its vivacious acidity. Blackberries and black plums cover the palate, accompanied by a light stroke of roasted coffee beans and chocolate. The mildly mineral finish unleashes some tannic vigor, but it remains nicely enrobed in supple fruit.

Mascota 2017 Pinot Noir Unánime 13.5% $25
A boisterous Pinot Noir, this is laden with black cherries, mulberries and savory spice. The moderate finish hints at some smokiness, too. Pleasantly harmonious on the palate, the pillowy tannins make way for the bustling acidity, which stretches the wine into a medium finish. While not all that complex, the robust concentration is notable here.

Trapiche 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Medalla 14% $20
This is a gracious Cabernet Sauvignon with well-honed tannins, integrated acidity and layered flavors. Juicy at the core and exuding blackberry and opulent North African spices, this is immediately intriguing and accessible. The lightly gruff tannins meld nicely into the moderate finish with notes of chocolate.
