I am a fan of the Bortolomiol wines for their sharp lens into the interaction of the Glera grape and terroir through a single vintage. The focus on quality and precision is key, and the overall approach helps to gives sparkling wine lovers a true glimpse into what is possible with this traditional grape in this historic region.

Bortolomiol 2017 Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Brut IUS Naturae 11.5%
This is a bracingly dry Glera with focus and precision. I'm surprised to read that there are 10 g/L of residual sugar. I would have thought it was lower, even though this wine is the lowest in total acidity (5.5 g/L) of this trio! The palate is light and crisscrossed with tiny bubbles. Vague scents of citrus, pear, white peach and verbena wind their ways out of the glass. Elegant and very digestible, especially at the table, this wine shows Glera's serious side.

It is incredibly pale in color with a vigorously dry and vibrantly refreshing attack. This is a serious and aromatically discreet wine. Its considerable concentration, lasting finish and well-placed structure are notable. In fact, the frame of the wine is more obvious than the aromas and flavors. It's definitely a wine to serve neither too cold nor too warm in order to fully appreciate the white peach, verbena and candied lime peel. What I love most are the persistent, lightly caressing bubbles that stream on and on! Only 8,000 bottles were made of this single vineyard, 70th anniversary wine.

Bortolomiol 2019 Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Bandarossa Extra Dry 11.5%
As the Bortolomiol team tells it, the Extra-Dry is perceived as the most traditional Prosecco by their international customers. Perhaps it is because this is the wine with the best distribution. But I suspect the fine balance plays a large part, too, especially with the very creamy, gentle bubbles and smooth mouthfeel. Bortolomiol bottles in many different sizes, including half bottles, magnums and jeroboams. Apparently, the large format bottles improve with age.

Pale yellow with hints of lemongrass, sweet pear and camomile, this is an incredibly elegant Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore. The combination of fine bubbles and a pleasantly noticeable strain of residual sugar (18 g/L) gives the palate moderate weight with a whisper of richness. Fresh and moreish, this is a classic aperitivo!
