Château Lauriga Pinks

Folded into the Jean-Claude Mas portfolio in 2016, this old Catalan property is bathed in Mediterranean sunshine yet cooled by the Tramontane wind that pushes from toward the sea. Historically planted with local varieties like those tasted below, these vines were recently joined by Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre and Merlot. Somewhat confusingly, the wines go by both Domaine and Château Lauriga. Nevertheless, they offer good value and are attractively packaged.

Château Lauriga 2019 Rosé Côtes du Roussillon 13%
A combination of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache Gris, this demure, pale pink rosé in color is dynamic on the palate as well as in its presentation. It is packaged in a beautiful, curvy bottle.

Bold and bright with strawberries, red cherries and red plums, a light minerality squeezes into the solidly lingering and plump feeling finish. There's good heft here to allow it to work well at the table, but its mild acidity gives it good sippability on its own.

Domaine Lauriga 2019 Le Gris Côtes Catalanes 13%
Made entirely of Grenache Gris (rather than the more commonly found Grenache Noir), this pale pink wine has an easy, smooth roundness on its straightforward palate. Smelling of morning roses, this shows nice sap through its vibrant, red summer fruits. Its moderate finish tastes of strawberries and tart cherries. This is a quaffer that melds nicely with light foods.
