Coppo 2012 Barbera d’Asti Camp du Rouss 14.2%
Verging toward succulence, this is a sure bet when you have to balance the polar opposites of fruit purists and oak fashionistas at your table set with hearty food. The wine starts with dazzling purity then turns up the romance a few notches with luscious, dominating mulberries interlaced with fennel and licorice. Vague baking spice and cinnamon stick palate nuances are intertwined with the rather viscous and generous mouthfeel. Lightly warm on the palate with a mouth and belly filling copiousness, this wine sports a flashy, medium-plus finish with tones of struck flint.

Coppo 2010 Barbera d’Asti Pomorosso 14.5%
This is swank wine. It is sweet with unabashedly youthful fruit highlighted by savory touches of enticing development, like fallen autumn leaves and damp clay. This wine dances on the edges of palate happiness. Svelte, sophisticated, well-considered oak use show touches of smokiness as well as savory spice. Full-bodied, a bit heavy and even bordering thick on the palate, there is nonetheless just enough medium acidity to keep this beauty in line. While best with food, it’s suave enough to enjoy on its own now.
