Faust 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon: Worth a Pact with Mephistopheles

It had been a few years since I tasted Faust, so I was looking forward to checking in with this Napa Cab. It has definitely morphed into an even more impressive wine (granted, with a much higher price tag) since I last tasted it, and that’s not just vintage-related. It was an eye-opening tasting and utterly delicious.

Faust 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 14.9% $110
This is quintessential Napa Cabernet – in taste (even if 18% is split between Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) and in sourcing. It has a tantalizing succulence corralled by vivacious structure. The tannins are hedonistically velvety and the refreshment is almost electric – perfect for harnessing the richness of the densely textured and generously full-bodied palate. Blueberries, blackberries and ganache infuse this complex, flavorful and deeply-colored red hailing primarily from Coombsville and Rutherford with dashes of fruit from Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain.
