Tuscan Wines That Go Easy on the Wallet

As food prices creep up, it's nice to know that good wines are still available for a Jackson. (Or, maybe soon it will be a Tubman!) All three of these red blends taste delectably of Tuscan sunshine, and they all hail from highly acclaimed estates.

Casanova di Neri 2018 Toscana IrROSSO 14% $22
Starting with a boisterious nose of mulberry, blueberry, violet and spice, this wine has a come-hither allure. Broad-shouldered with a full body and chunky fruit, there is a lot of substance here. That's great news if the bottle won't be finished in one night. In fact, it holds nicely at least into the third day (stored in the refrigerator). The racy acidity pulls the dramatically earthy tones into a long, balanced finish. This dashing blend of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot is perfect for grilled meats!

Fattoria Selvapiana 2019 Chianti Rufina 13% $19
Packed with bright red cherry fruit and rosebuds, this has a fresh, intriguing nose. Feisty acidity lights up moderate-bodied palate, which is also framed by broad gruff tannins. Medium in finish with light minerality and hints of sawdust, this is a bit rustic yet ready to drink. This is Sangiovese with a 5% dash of Canaiolo, Colorino and Malvasia Nera.

Aia Vecchia 2018 Toscana Lagone 14% $17
Bold and spicy with exotic, North African spices, this is a full-bodied, delightfully chunky and lightly rustic red with firm tannins that melt into a lingering finish lifted by refreshing acidity. Plums, cherries, dusty earth and a hint of mocha weave together on the palate. This blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc will drink well on its own or with hearty fare.
