Garofoli Verdicchio

Garofoli 2014 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 13%
This wine offers a surprising juxtaposition of generous minerality on the nose and popping fruit on the palate. Aromatically it is so non-fruit focused that it’s even earthy, but the palate is replete with peaches and apricots sprinkled with spicy white pepper. Medium concentration and moderate finish render immediate appeal, and this easy sipper should drink well through 2016. 86

Garofoli 2012 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Podium 14%
Though three years old, this Verdicchio has an impressively pale straw color. Mostly matured beyond primary fruits, smoky minerality, wet slate, damp wood and fresh mushrooms accent its light grapiness. The considerable weight receives vibrant lift from bold acidity; I’d never guess it has 14% abv. The lingering finish and tight structure suggest this will keep improving through 2017. 90
