A First: When Your Partner Starts to Rate Wines

90
Le Haut-Médoc de Lascombes 2010 Haut-Médoc 13.5%
It’s rather interesting to have a partner at home that takes on the challenge to rate wines, seemingly for the sake of figuring out where his palate stand versus mine. On this wine, he went for a 92. I sipped and went for a 91 initially but ultimately decided on a 90 – largely because the finish is fairly quick. However, my parnter argued his points well, and I whole-heartedly agreed with him based on the wine’s deliciousness. It’s perfectly balanced between its generously ripe black fruits, moderate plus acidity and svelte tannins. It’s a wine that – perhaps – wears its 2010 stroke of luckiness on its lapel as it is “only” Haut-Médoc (unfair, yes, but a typical perception). Were the wine not to finish a bit modest, I would have certainly gone for a higher score from a technical perspective. But, wine drinking is about enjoyment, and for that this wine rates a 92!
