Alois Lageder 2015 Pinot Gris Porer $25
Defying the flavor profile of so many Pinot Grigios, this Alto Adige-derived, Porer single vineyard delivers concentrated flavors of yellow apple skin, golden raisins, freshly-baked baguette and cracked white pepper. Even though it isn’t particularly fruit-driven, it has loads of intrigue, especially on its earthy, minerally and lingering finish. It offers a flattering and sensous palate of graciously caressing texture with well-placed and gently lifting acidity. Full-bodied and showing at least 14% abv, its generosity lends well to hearty, swordfish paired with bok-choy and soy, bacon-wrapped pork loin and creamy cheeses. If you don’t finish the bottle the first night, it does hold up well for several days when stored with a Vacu Vin stopper in the fridge.
