Peter Zemmer 2015 Pinot Nero Rolhütt 13% $19
This bright, ruby red wine has a floral nose festooned with exotic spices. Though it registers 13% alcohol on the label, it feels lighter due to its racy acidity and lightly prickly tannins that give the overall palate feel lots of lift. The flavors range from smashed black cherry to popping-ripe blueberry, all complimented by a swirl of sweet spices. The finish turns surprisingly savory though it is only moderately long. Thanks to the totality of the wine being aged in older French oak of various sizes, there’s no evident forest footprint on this wine. This crisp, cooler climate style of Pinot Nero (Noir) is best showcased at a table laid-out with lighter fare and offers brilliant value at just under a Jackson.
